An Introduction and Application of Clinical Psychological Tests

Abstract

|
The purpose of assessing a psychiatric patient is to provide information on which decisions about his future can be based. The need for developing psychological techniques to assess the personality or behavior of psychiatric patients has long been recognized by psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. Psychological tests provide on opportunity for sampling a wider variety of behavior than is possible in an interview. Indeed the clinical psychologist´s assessment of psychiatric patients is best seen as an extension of the examination undertaken by the psychiatrist.
The aim of this article is to provide an introduction and discussion of the main clinical psychological tests as the followings; Korean Wechsler Intelligence Scale, Korean Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Kodae-Binet Scale, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, Rorschach Test, Thematic Apperception Test, Bender-Gestalt Test and Draw-a-Person Test. The discussion is to provide a framework to some of the main issues of psychological assessment. Since clinical psychologists work mainly in conjunction with psychiatrists it is important that psychiatrists should be informed as what problems are most profitably submitted to psychological investigation. Psychiatrists should be encouraged to formu
late any questions which they put to psychologists as precisley and specificably as possible. In practice the formulation of specific problems is usually the outcome of discussions between psychiatrist and psychologist.
